Offer rewards for delivering tangible improvements

How to engage employees in research and development process.

Introduce rewards for employees who deliver business improvements. While most employees will be receptive to recognition of their good work, rewards are a way of offering tangible benefits that underpin ongoing motivation of the workforce. Darren Childs, CEO of UKTV, has revealed that all his employees can contribute ideas freely and they will be rewarded for these. This “empowers them to think differently on behalf of the business and provides new learning for us all”. However, when thinking about rewards, it’s important to note what Tammy Erickson from London Business School says. “In consumer marketing, we accept that everyone wants something a little different, but we assume that employees are motivated by the same thing.”
