Use a mentor effectively

How to engage with mentors or use advice.

Get the most out of using a mentor by preparing before each session and committing to acting on the advice you receive. Entrepreneur James Caan advises that the mentor-mentee relationship is not a one-way street, with the mentor doing all of the work. Mentees need to make efforts on their side by listening to the mentor’s advice and acting on it in a way which fits with their business needs and context. Caan suggests that you need to make sure you are meeting regularly, updating the mentor on your business’s performance and sending over a short agenda before each meeting so the mentor can prepare too.
