North West family businesses honoured under wings of the Concorde

The awards were held under the decommisioned Concorde at the Manchester airport

Under the wings of British Airways Concorde, family businesses across the North West of England came together on 6 March to celebrate their achievements and check out the competition. And with 192 entries across 11 categories, the competition was tough.

Demonstrating the sheer spectrum of family businesses in the North West, nominees at the North West Family Business Awards ranged from a “cow to cone” milking parlour, vegetarian puppet theatre, and major transport and construction businesses.

With high energy fiddler Richard Sanderson leaping from chair to chair, nominees decked out in head-to-toe sparkling rhinestones, and the ever-present wings of the Concorde, the energy behind the North West’s top performing family businesses was palpable.

Sue Howorth, founder of the Family Business Network and the North West Family Business Awards, said: “Response from the business sector and the public has been fantastic for this inaugural event.”  She added that support from the public was “outstanding” with “4,530 votes for the People’s Choice Award and over 3,350 for Employee of the Year.”

Be the Business was proud to sponsor the Non-family Leader of the Year award which went to Marnie Millard OBE of Nicholls Plc. Other big winners on the night were Partington’s Holiday Centres for Family Business of the Year and Mark Porter of Higginsons of Grange for Employee of the Year.
