“Productivity matters. No growth for over ten years means people are poorer and the UK is weaker, competitively, than we should be. We want to change that and we know it can be done. We’re stepping up, as businesses, to support a movement across the UK. With this support we will work with businesses, with sectors and in places right across the country to build a better decade.”

How partners have contributed to our productivity movement
Why 2020 can be the year that changed our trajectory on tech
Since May 2020, our Technology Taskforce comprised of CEOs from Amazon, Cisco, Facebook, Sage, SAP, Openreach and Oracle, has been providing strategic direction on how we move the needle on mass adoption of basic productivity technology across UK.
The CBI estimate that adoption of key technologies could add £100bn to UK GVA while ONS have shown that Enterprise Resource Planning or CRM can create a productivity premium of around 25 per cent. Our recent whitepaper articulates the investigation that we ran with McKinsey & Co, and was overseen by this group.
The UK’s technology moment
Construction Productivity Group
In 2020 Be the Business established the Construction Productivity Group, focused on testing pilot projects to boost productivity in the construction sector. The group brings together clients and contractors to co-create innovative interventions.
The group, which includes British Land, Mace, Landsec, Lendlease, Laing O’Rourke, Skanska and Sir Robert McAlpine, is looking at practical measures that complement existing industry efforts.
Accenture have partnered with Be the Business and are leading the project. The group have developed three practical interventions to pilot, at speed and at scale, that will serve as proof points for commercial segment initially, and eventually wider sector application. The pilots include:
- Access to Specialists pilot: a collaboration between Landsec, Sir Robert McAlpine and Mace. The pilot engages specialist designers /installers earlier in the design process, to reduce the risk of rework
- Productivity Management pilot, a collaboration with British Land and Skanska. The pilot includes early alignment on productivity metrics and a collaborative framework for sharing project performance data
- Collaborative Contracting pilot will create a new simpler contract that avoids multiple amendments and reduces time to contract, drives innovation and builds strategic relationships through the supply chain
