Increase the opportunity for workplace chance encounters

Swindon-based business Infinity Nation creates lots of opportunities for chance encounters having seen the positive effect they can have.

Apple’s Steve Jobs famously planned his buildings so that staff from different departments would regularly rub shoulders with each other – thus ensuring random and hopefully fruitful interactions.

Today, many businesses embrace a similar ethos, and instead of keeping teams tucked away in “silos”, they champion open-plan offices and hot-desking, and actively encourage teams to work together. But one of the easiest ways to keep people from across the business talking is to build somewhere within the office where they can say hello.

Al Keck, founder and MD of digital marketing agency Infinity Nation says that interactions of this kind happen around his office’s tea and coffee making area and hare helped by perks such as table football.
